Fattoria Galardi
Galardi is a winery par excellence located in Southern Italy. They are famous for their indigenous grape varietals: Agliancio and Piedirosso, property of 11 hectares. Some radical techniques of grape growing are applied in this boutique winery for 80% of Aglianico and 20% of Piedirosso with an average vine age of 12 years. The wine is aged in stainless steel barrels are around 2 weeks; then transferred to be aged in French oak barrels, among which 20% are new, for a period of 10 to 12 months. The wine will be bottled without any refining nor filtering and age for another 10 months in the bottle before selling.
The flagship wine of the winery is Galardi Terra di Lavoro. Outstanding vintages include 2001, 2000, 1999, 1995 and 1994. A 99 point rating was given to the Terra di Lavoro.Powerful wine with superb richness, displaying inky purple color. On the nose, one will find bouquet of crème de cassis, roasted leather and burnt earth. The tannin is sizeable yet soft, with layers of fruitiness on the palate. Although the taste of this wine is almost wild, it still retains its complexity and solid structure. With some breathing time it will display nose of chocolate, blackberry and gooseberry. This is an extraordinary effort and can be enjoyed now or cellar it for another 20 years.
