San Giusto a Rentennano

San Giusto a Rentennano is situated in Chianti Classico, Tuscany, overlooks the Arbia River at 270m above sea level. The estate began life as a medieval monastery of Cistercian nuns and was called San Giusto alle Monache, hence the name of the estate. It was owned by the Enrico Martini di Cigala family since 1912, now is run and managed by 3 family members, Franceso, Luca & Elisabetta.

 

The estate comprised with 160 hectares of land, out of which 30.5 hectares are planted as vineyards. The terrain is composed of various soils rich in different mineral components, clay and volcanic ash. The microclimate is characterized by considerable day and night temperature differences. Besides, the vineyard practices “green harvesting ,” which means eliminate the immature grapes before harvest, so to concentrate the nutrients for the matured grapes.

 

Winery produces: “Le Baroncole” is made from 97% Sangiovese and 3% Canaiolo grapes. It is aged in French oak barrels for 16 to 20 months, then it is bottled unfiltered and held for a further 6 months. :Percarlo” is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes, it is aged in French oak barrels for 20-22 months, bottled unfiltered and held in bottle for another 18 months. It is robust expression of the San Giusto a Rentennano terroir. “La Ricolma” is made from 100% Merlot grape, the annual production is 3,500 bottles only. The estate received much praise from wine critics and wine magazines as the best Winery in Tuscany.
