Tasting Note
Vintage 2008 - Published by Wine Advocate in Aug 2011. Rating: 92/100
The 2008 Tenuta degli Dei is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 18% Petit Verdot and 2% Alicante. The 2008 is a big step up from previous vintages. It is an intense, brooding wine packed with jammy blueberries, blackberries, cassis and crushed rocks, all of which flow effortlessly from its structured frame. This shows considerable textural depth and plenty of complexity. It is a strong effort for the year. This is the strongest set of wines I have tasted from Cavalli.
Vintage 2009 - Published by Wine Advocate in Jun 2012. Rating 92/100
The 2009 Tenuta degli Dei boasts gorgeous depth and purity. Sweet red cherries, licorice, mint and flowers are woven together beautifully in this centered, impeccably poised wine. Sweet floral notes reappear on the attractive, polished finish. The flagship Tenuta degli Dei is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc and 15% Petit Verdot.
Vintage 2010 - Published by Wine Advocate in Aug 2013. Rating 94/100
Compared to the sober packaging of Le Redini, the 2010 Cavalli boasts a few design touches that evoke the catwalk feel of father Cavalli. Even the inside of the bottle reveals some of the Rococo aesthetic of the famous fashion designer. This is an extremely opulent, thickly concentrated blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc that peels back layer after thick layer. Sun-ripened berry, blackberry preserves, spice, cardamom, rum cake, leather and moist chewing tobacco all vie for your attention. Although it’s definitely on the ripe side, the great quality of fruit in 2010 shapes a soft, long-lasting feel in the mouth.
