Tasting Note
Picked with 235° Oechsle, Christian Hermann’s golden-colored, 8% alcohol 2010 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese GK (Gold Cap) opens with beautifully clear and fresh, very refined and aromatic raisin and yellow plum fruit; the nose is highly elegant and perfectly defined, displaying some lovely wholemeal and blossom honey notes. On the palate, this is a sweet (354 grams of residual sugar) and very intense, yet fresh and precise, firmly structured and perfectly balanced beauty with a merciless 15 grams of total acidity and lots of slate-like minerality. This combination of concentrated sweetness, grippy minerals and the very prominent acidity is very rare ,even in the Mosel (though less rare in 2010 maybe); but it is extremely promising and not even a little bit opulent, fat or oily. This is stunningly great Riesling that’s exciting to taste today, but the aging perspective is almost unreal. If your kids were born in 2010, this could be a great present for their 40th birthday. Total production is 100 liters. Filled exclusively in 375-milliliter bottles. Drink from 2025-2060.
