Proprietor Enzo Pontoni, the soul behind Miani, is widely regarded as one of Italy’s finest winemakers and his wines are highly sought after in Italy and abroad. Pontoni represents the finest of the artisanal approach to winemaking and his meticulous, some would say fanatical, devotion to his old-vine plots is legendary. Working about 17 hectares in Friuli’s Colli Orientali, Enzo is uncompromising in the vineyard, selling all but the best fruit and only producing about 7000 bottles of minerally whites – Ribolla, Friulano, Sauvignon, Chardonnay and monumental reds – Merlot, Refosco. A renowned wine critic Antonio Galloni once said, “Enzo Pontoni is simply on another planet. In the best years his wines frankly have no peers in Italy.”
